Well, hello there…
I’m feeling especially awkward (and a bit shy, TBH) at the moment, as I am still figuring out what this Substack thing is all about and what it should be about for me. I mean, I already have a Wordpress site, and I’m on Facebook, Instagram, LI, and Twitter (twice!). If anything, I need to do less on social media, not more. So, why am I here? What’s it all about, Alfie?
To put my muddled thoughts on the subject as clearly as possible: I’m here to figure it out. In other words, I’m a learn-by-doing kind of person. Or in other other words, you can’t tell me anything, cuz I just won’t get it until I experience it. Call it what you want, but with so many of my friends on the interwebs jumping into this thing, it’s reached that critical mass to finally dive in.
As a poem scribbler, the upcoming month - and the perfectly timed “November Poem A Day 2024” (or #NovPAD for short) - gives me a great excuse for generating content and giving this a test run. Starting tomorrow, I’ll begin posting poems that I’ve drafted each day in response to the given prompt. I say “drafted” intentionally. I make no promises as to the quality or completeness of these efforts. I also refuse to commit to a daily post, though I’m going to try and keep up.
Thanks for reading so far. I hope you stick around for the poetry; your comments on my scribbles are warmly welcomed. Feedback, suggestions, edits… all welcome. Praise and puffery also accepted, with appropriate levels of grace and humility, one hopes.
Until then, happy writing!
Yay! I'm glad to see you and your writing here, Kelly!
I joined Substack about half a year ago and still haven't figured the thing out. It is great for seeing the stuff of about a dozen poets I would not miss for the world, but I have no idea how to build audience. And getting all the emails is a bit much!
