NovPAD 2025 Week 1
Poems of Creation
For the third year in a row, I’m participating in the November Poem A Day (NovPAD) challenge hosted by the Poetry Pub Writing Community. Writing prompts are provided for each day around the theme, which for this year is: Poems of Creation.
Now that we’re seven days into the month, I’ve got a few new poems under my belt to share. Which I will do here on a weekly basis. Here’s a selection from the week past:
Prompt #1: Beginning / Birth BUT WAIT… Before we make, we must let there be light, to reveal what is to be made; give thanks for the gravity that keeps our sub-creations grounded; call all our angels as witnesses to the making and make the coffee (or tea) as the case may be to light the fire within. But wait, there’s more! We must line up our tools of creation – neatly; vacuum up the dust of past attempts; throw laundry in the dryer; call Mom, call Dad, call brother Dan; sing Danny Boy twice; cross one’s self thrice; breathe in four, hold seven, out eight. Okay. Now: Let’s go! *** Prompt #2: Spark COOKING WITH GAS Tick tick whoosh, the soft sigh of sulfur, a spark, then flame: immediate *** Prompt #3: Breeze A PRAYER FOR STUCK CREATIVES Let this be easy – a breeze that shakes loose those last November leaves *** Prompt #4: Seed IMAGINE THAT Funny how the seed looks nothing like the tree – such possibility! *** Prompt #5: Rain APPLAUSE Here’s to rain on a metal rooftop – a thousand angels applauding
