re-reading here, and now that last line is leaping at me. So good. Funny how perspective changes what we see, as the fisherman will not see that gleam from his vantage.

So true about perspective... which, I guess, is what this poem is all about (I didn't realize that until just now!). Funny how our words often know more than we do. When I was writing this, I struggled to remember what I could actually see while standing on that bridge (since I wasn't actually on the bridge while writing), and specifically if I could see the ocean looking east off the bridge. I knew I couldn't, since the river bends a bit before dumping into the ocean, but in my imagination I could. And in a way, I can in reality experience a bit of the ocean from the bridge, because it's a tidal river - going up and down with the ocean's tide - and there's the smell of the sea, and the lobster boats, and seagulls, etc. That's a really looong way of saying "Thanks!" and yes, it is funny!
